Available in the Library

184 letters, cards, telegrams and a substantial number of scattered papers addressed to Luigi Arnaldo Vassallo between the second half of the 19th century and the first decade of the 20th century

  • edited by Paolo Falcone (1987) and Oriana Cartaregia (2002)

The material being examined and under organization at present time was collected by Prof.Nurra, librarian and scholar of the Risorgimento. It arrived at the University Library in February 1933, by purchase from the widow Vassallo. Pietro Nurra was the Director of the Library and it is to this known librarian that the “carteggio” owns part of the name with which it is known today.

The correspondence consists of 15 medium-sized envelopes containing letters, cards, telegrams and a substantial number of scattered documents, of various nature and origin for a total of 184 documents.

The envelopes collect the correspondence sent for various reasons, in a time frame running from the second half of the first decade of the twentieth century, to Luigi Arnaldo Vassallo , a man of culture and director in those same years of "Il Secolo XIX" e de "Il Capitan Fracassa".

The correspondence Vassallo already possessed at the time when found its own order that has been respected by us, the material is therefore divided into envelopes signed in alphabetical order and bearing signs of the content [we felt more correct to order the material within each single envelope in chronological order and not following the gradual entry by number]. As senders, in most cases, were important personalities of the political and cultural life of those years, we considered it appropriate to follow a detailed list of what the inventory consisted of. The autographs and documents are full of “shirts” with regesto and data pertaining to the sender / author, the place and date.
