The correspondence Serra consists of 98 letters addressed for the most part to the MarquisGiacomo Serra by his sons and daughters Gio. Carlo, Girolamo, Maria Maddalena, Ambrogio e Giovanni Battista. The biggest nucleus of correspondence refers to Giovanni Carlo and Girolamo correspondence from 1776 to 1780 at the Teresian College of Vienna.
The correspondence was probably part of some family funds attached to the Archive of the University Studies of Genova.
Some of those funds were received by the Library and placed in a box called "Laura". Even today, 37 letters to the Marquis Giacomo Serra, Genoa (mostly from Vienna from the abbot Giuseppe Antonio Pozzi, tutor of Girolamo and Gio Carlo Serra, 1776 -1780)can be found amongst the material in the box marked Laura File 1700/13.
The image that the letters give us of the two characters, protagonists in the changeover from the oligarchic republich to the Ligurian republic, is unusual and curious. Gio Carlo and Girolamo did not have yet twenty years at that time and were just building their cultural background, so that very little in these letters allows to predict their future destiny. If on one side the historic political interest of this correspondence is rather limited, an "intimate" angle transpires about small family interests offering us a very realistic insight into the methods of education of that period. For the nature of family correspondence, we have not considered it necessary to support the catalogues with the regesto of the letters.
